How to Adopt: A Purrfectly Clear & Easy Guide
-

1) Meet the Cat
This is the most important step! You can book an appointment to spend time with the cats or kittens you're interested in. This allows you to get a true sense of their personality before making a decision, helping to ensure a good match and reducing the likelihood of surrender.
It is the shelter’s policy to require this step in order to ensure a successful and lasting adoption for both the animal and the adopter. -

2) Fill out the Application
After meeting the cat, you can fill out the adoption form either at the cafe or the shelter. It’s a simple questionnaire.
If you rent or don’t own your home, you’ll receive a form for your landlord or property owner to sign. This signed form must be submitted to the shelter before the adoption can be approved.

3) Head to the Shelter
Before visiting, check the shelter’s hours:
Monday - Friday: 11 AM – 4 PM
Saturday: 10 AM – 3 PM
Sunday: Closed
They may also be closed on holidays or snow days, so be sure to check ahead.
Once you arrive, you’ll need to sign some paperwork, complete a quick background check (which is almost instant) and make the payment! Don’t forget to bring your ID!

4) Head to the Cafe
After finalizing your cat’s adoption, give us a call at (240) 607-9456—we’ll be the first to congratulate you! We’ll also gather some details, like whether you’ll be bringing a carrier and when you plan to pick up your new pet. (Please note: pickup must be within 48 hours of adoption.)
When you arrive, we’ll provide your cat’s paperwork, offer to take an adoption photo, and carefully place them in your carrier. Then, you’re all set to take them home—congratulations!
